Paint & Platter - 1 Day
Thursday 12 March
9am to 3pm
The Lost Spring, Cook Drive, Whitianga
Paint & Platter at The Lost Spring
Discover creative new painting mediums and techniques in the idyllic surroundings of The Lost Spring, New Zealand's geothermal oasis. No previous painting experience is necessary.
Prime your artistic self with a relaxing glass of wine or smoothie to get your creative juices flowing. Unwind, lose your inhibitions and 'give it a go' against a backdrop of flowing water and lush native bush. Wendy will demonstrate easy, enlightening ways to use contemporary painting materials then experiment at your own pace with ongoing guidance.
Mix it up, push the boundaries, there's no right or wrong in this class. Explore the magic of acrylic paint; make it slide, drip, splatter, pool, sparkle, veil and reveal. Create interesting effects with gels, fluid acrylics, hard-bodied paints, reflective and metallic paints, and collage. Feeling peckish? Graze on a delectable brunch platter as you create.
At the end of the workshop you'll have produced an artwork to be proud of. Then put away your paintbrush and soak in the mineral-rich, geo-thermal water of The Lost Spring. Rising from 667m below the surface through a small crack in the bedrock, the water emerges completely sterile, fossilised after 16,000 years below ground. With water temperatures ranging from 32°C to 41°C, you'll find your perfect spot to reflect on insights gleaned to take your art in a new direction.
Art materials, welcome drink, grazing lunch platter and swim included in the workshop fee. All you need to bring is an art apron or old shirt, togs and towel, and plenty of enthusiasm.
